Literally.

thank you for helping me yesterday Chocho. I really don't know what I am doing. My tulpas understand me, but even they get confused by me sometimes (edited)
Avatar
I wonder: can tulpas perform hypnosis?
Avatar
I guess if they practiced it, sure?
11:26 PM
Tulpas are just like anyone else, I don't see why they wouldn't be able to
Avatar
Mine do the exercise, i fall asleep, so...

@asreal do you mean internally or externally? (the answer to both is yes)

Would the Hulk be considered a tulpa?
3:42 PM
An alter/headmate, maybe
Avatar
Deleted User 9/23/2018 3:42 PM
I need to find out what the difference is between a headmate and a tulpa then
Avatar
The Hulk is corporeal anyway
Avatar
Tulpas are created
Avatar
Headmate is a more vague/umbrella term as far as I know.
Avatar
That, and sometimes an alternative word to describe what people call an "alter"
3:44 PM
Because some people find the word "alter" offensive
3:44 PM
In this context

Deleted User 9/23/2018 3:46 PM
What guide should I read that delves into the differences between headmates/tulpas/alters etc? (edited)
Avatar
I don't think there's a guide that explains that

I guess it's endogenics that I have then
Avatar
Endogenic isn't a being?
3:57 PM
It's a term for the type of system you have
3:57 PM
not the type of headmates
Avatar
Deleted User 9/23/2018 3:57 PM
oh
3:58 PM
I guess whatever an alter is that isn't sprout from trauma
Avatar
A tulpa...
Avatar
Deleted User 9/23/2018 3:58 PM
But tulpas can't be created unintentionally can they?
Avatar
Sure, but not spontaneously
Avatar
The most common way is for someone to have a character that eventually gains sentience
Avatar
Deleted User 9/23/2018 3:59 PM
Yeah I'd say that's about right
4:00 PM
But it's more of a proto-sentience if anything
Avatar
What does that mean
Avatar
Deleted User 9/23/2018 4:01 PM
They're on the path of being sentient but not quite?
4:01 PM
idk it's weird
4:02 PM
i also keep interactions with them to a minimum
4:02 PM
the only way we'd communicate is through text
Avatar
That is weird. Idk I feel like you're either sentient or not and there's no in between
4:04 PM
You can be less developed but not less sentient
Avatar
Deleted User 9/23/2018 4:08 PM
I feel like my ego is a soap bubble and they are smaller bubbles hanging onto me who haven't quite become their own bubbles yet
4:08 PM
If that makes any sense
Avatar
that's a neat way to think about things, i kinda like that actually
Avatar
But I also feel like classing someone as a "glorified imaginary friend" might make it harder for them to keep developing into something more.
Avatar
@Cassilda Then you get into the issue of people straight up using bad rhetoric
4:21 PM
because people who don't realize that their tulpas are generally low complexity feel that it's an insult rather than descriptive
Avatar
Old members from 4chan and 2012 .info days are very self-assured and set in their ways, but as I previously stated I believe happy hosts with happy tulpas are doing just fine without worrying about "grass is greener" sorts of problems. The only consistent "mindset" I see from them is that they don't like how people think about tulpas these days. Newbies in extended communities (outside of tulpa.info) have much wider-spread beliefs as the phenomenon has reached so many people, but I still believe it's gone in a mostly positive direction. I believe we're not getting worse as a community overall, but rather, we are constantly dealing with converting the less.. nice beliefs about thoughtforms from newcomers to the term "tulpas" to better ones. I think you might be mistaking what's actually progress as regress. I do encourage you to think about that "expanding bubble of knowledge" concept to hopefully add a little more optimism into your feelings on this matter. The more we learn, the more we can see we don't know. But that doesn't mean we're getting less intelligent. If anything, the increasing ability to see problems in the community is a result of that same concept. And we're going to keep seeing more and more newcomers with iffy ideas, and they may spread them to an extent, but I think the base we've created from .info and outwards will keep the trend positive. I don't things are going to get any worse than they already were. (edited)

Textwall summing up my points, and I'm going to bed now. Good night.

When we find a way to discuss tulpas on television without sounding like a bunch of dumbasses, when we find ways to write legitimately compelling and insightful articles outlining the phenomenon in a philosophically rigorous way, then I will feel all right.
Avatar
lemme at em
Avatar
I mean, Veissiere already kinda did that. (edited)
Avatar
Hey guys, most of you probably don't recognize me around here, since I tend to stick to reddit and their discord. I have some exciting news for people. Dr. Samuel Veissiere has finally gotten the go a
Avatar
Ah, that's a new development.
4:25 PM
@Cassilda they haven't even done the study, though?
4:26 PM
Unless this link @Reisen shared isn't the most recent development
Avatar
I'm talking about the paper he published before he even started the study Tewi linked.
Avatar
Nice to see that it's finally happening after all this time, they were aiming for summer in regards to that

Why Tulpamancers have a lot to teach us about what we can imagine and experience

I honestly wonder if we're going to plow our way through all the criticisms as a legitimate phenomenon without dropping the -mancy.

We could describe ourselves as "Tulpa forcers", but I don't think that's much better
Avatar
we could just describe ourselves as humans hey
4:29 PM
that'd be cool
4:29 PM
humans doing a consciousness exercise
Avatar
"People who create tulpas" is the only alternative we have to "Tulpamancers" right now.
Avatar
weird how that's not cringy
Avatar
haha holy shit
4:29 PM
guys
4:30 PM
what if tulpas got normalized right
Avatar
Still though, Veissiere is writing some good shit on us.

people would be HORRIFIED when people joked about beating them

I'm totally fine with that.

Avatar
What else would you call "tulpamancy" in a sense like that? It's an interesting thing to think about. Calling it just "tulpas" sounds a bit too casual.
Avatar
I don't really consider this eloquent
4:32 PM
@Clo Idk why we'd stick with tulpas, tbh
Avatar
Tulpa forcers sounds nice as Ranger said, but we can do better.
Avatar
idk why we wouldn't frame this phenomenon within already understood terminology
Avatar
tulpa forcers just sounds like power rangers
Avatar
Considering many want to get rid of the term "forcing" altogether, perhaps not tulpaforcers.
Avatar
bduddy #Diana# 9/23/2018 4:34 PM
"forcing" is bad
4:34 PM
what's wrong with just "tulpa creators"
Avatar
A long kiss goodnight 9/23/2018 4:34 PM
The only understood phenomenon we could call Tulpamancy is "religion", but not everyone in the community agrees that Tulpamancy could be considered one.
